I have never owned an AR-15 style rifle but am now in the market for one. I am a right hand/left eye dominate shooter with my handguns. Should I consider a left handed rifle, or can I achieve the same accuracy from a standard model shooting lefty?

welcome to THR

this subject has been discussed many, many times, so a search would be a good idea.

the short answer is, you should shoot left-handed, but you do not need a left-handed AR, since the standard configuration is very ergonomic with either hand.

My cousin is a lefty and has no problems shooting a standard model. I did add an ambi safety for him though.

I saw this not too long ago, it could help you out.

I too do not own an ar-15, but given the way it ejects spent cases perpendicular to the rifle, I would not want that in my face. In addition to hot cases, there's the joy of eye-stinging gases that come out of the receiver/ejected case. So regardless of ergonomics w/ trigger hand or sights you should be shooting right handed or get a left handed model (does one exist? I don't know! But I would think it must.)

I'm left eye dominant but have always shot a rifle and pistol right handed. Of course with a rifle I use my right eye but with a pistol I do bring it over and use the left eye. A slight inconvenience but my brain seems to sort it out though I know others have a real problem with cross-dominance. I'd say rent a standard AR and shoot it before making a decision, maybe you'll be lucky like me.

I am left handed, left eye dominant shooter. I have 2 right handed AR style rifles. One, the DPMS classic 16, I have shot a ton without any issues as far as spent casings hitting me. You may be alright right shooting a right handed one, at least maybe some of them.
