Hello everyone.. I'm a rifle and handgun person.. Never really got into shotguns. A friend of mine is into skeet shooting and I would like to join him and was wondering what everyone suggests as a decent starter -only used for skeet- less expensive shotgun (Under 400 or so).

Thanks for your suggestions.

I also came over from handguns to the wonderful world of shotguns and skeet. If you are looking to spend under $400, I think most people would recommend a previously enjoyed (a.k.a. used) Remington 1100. There are many out there on the used gun racks, and they have been used to crush more clays than probably any other gun over the years. Of course, make sure the gun fits you as the best SG in the world isn't worth much if it doesn't shoot where you are looking!

That 1100 is a good choice and easily within your price range. These are great guns and quite reliable. I bought a 20 ga. for my bride and she can't get out often enough to shoot.
Although I also own an 1100 in 12 ga., I shoot my 870's more than any other gun. If you like the action of a pump-gun, you can get a couple/few 870's for the money you're talking about.
Be warned though that any shotgunning is addictive and your pistols and rifles will soon be wondering where you've gone.
Have fun (like I need to even say that!)
Mike

For a starter shotgun go with the 870 express. They have a $25 dollar rebate on them now. You can take the 25 bucks and buy five boxes of ammo. Welcome.

The 1100's a good choice. But, if one is planning on having only ONE shotgun, the 870 is lots of gun for the money. A long barrel for clays and most hunting, a short barrel with sights for defense and slugs, and lots of ammo.

A warning, 870s do not breed, but they can multiply....
