Looking to purchase a threaded barrel .308 bolt gun. Mostly for longer range deer and elk hunting with a silencer. Budget is I'd like to keep it under a thousand. Needs to be threaded 5?8X28 to match my SIG 762TI silencer or my Silencerco specwar. I know Ruger does an American but the stocks are so ugly on my 300 BO RARR I'm turned off by that. Savage makes a Hog hunter that looks promising but Ive never seen one in person. What else is out there?

The Hog Hunter is essentially the same stock as the Predator. If you don't like the Predator stock you won't like the Hog Hunter.

how about a mossberg MVP in .308 that'll also take AR-10 mags.. i think most these models have threaded muzzles

mossberg MVP LR .308 has a 20 inch threaded barrel.. also, i believe theyre 5/8x24 thread, which is what sig lists their 7.62 rifles as being threaded for

Love my Ruger GSR, but if going for longer ranges, the short barrel may be detrimental....Surprised they don't do an M77 in .308

Big fan of Ruger rifles and customer service. Not really heirlooms, but they are workhorses.

I used to have M77 in .308. . It was 3 MOA gun . Never could figure out why. My 300 BO RARR is one MOA gun. Go figure.

^ I second this. GSR would be cool with a silencer as long as "long range" is not over 400 yrds. I love mine and it shoots well for a short barrel gun.

I love my river gsr too. It's my go to and favorite.

A 20" barrel in 308 will get you to 1000 yards with the right bullets and barrel twist. The 18" barreled Ruger should get you close. The 16" GSR version might not be a 1000 yard gun, but it is good for more than 400 yards.

The 77's are as tough as they come, but they have some design features that limit accuracy. Most of them can be 1 MOA guns with some tweaking which is more than good enough for most hunters. The American is designed for pure accuracy and the Ruger Precision rifle uses the same action and barrel as the Predator. I'm not sure, but the street prices on the Precision rifle may be pretty close to your $1,000 limit.

The logical thing to do would be to keep an eye out for a SiG SSG 3000

I'm not sure what they are running now, but the US made 24" barreled ones were down around $1100 about a year ago ... and even with the plastic US stock they preformed remarkably, mine would average around 3/4" groups at 175 yards.

I need to take a current picture, this from when I first got it ... It now has a nice Leupold scope & mount and an Atlas bipod.

.

Edit to add, the only ones I can currently find are $1,446 which is about what they were when introduced, then dropped.

Both the Ruger American Predator and Savage Hog Hunter muzzle threads are 5/8-24, not 5/8-28.

Remington has the 700 AAC-SD, a 308 with 20" threaded barrel; it's Remington model #84203. It has the same threads as the American Predator and Hog Hunter

sigs website says their 7.62 rifles are 5/8x24 though.. perhaps the OP was mistaken on the thread?

I'm sure he meant 5/8"x24 as its the .30 Cal standard thread for suppressors. The GSR would be a good option, to what's already been listed I would add the Savage FCP-SR, the Browning X-Bolt suppressor ready and Tikka CTR.

It seems like you limiting your options over a controllable variable. Why not get the rifle you want and have the barrel threaded. Pretty basic task for an average gunsmith.

Like I can see 400 yards.
It doesn't take much of a scope to be able to see a 12"x12" target at 400yds ... My 3x does fine. I may not be able to put a round in the bulls every time but with a 2-3 moa gun you should at least be able to hit it.

Savage model 10 precision carbine... will give you 1/2 moa accuracy, 20" threaded barrel, and there are alot of aftermarket options for it like a 10 round magazine...
