Looked at a makarov and the tokarev the only problem I have with them is that its hard to found ammo for but I can get it at calelas for around 20 a box but I don't like ordering if I can help it I looked at a s&w 357 for 350 that has got me interested in a s&w good friend has a s&w in a 38 he is going to let me shoot I have never shot a pistol bigger then a 22 so I will make a more info pick thanks

Another vote for a Model 10. Finest combat revolver ever made as far as I am concerned. Load it with Buffalo Bore 158 gr LSWCHP +P for self defense, cheap 158 gr. LRN for practice.

I have to say I really like the s&w model 10 too I have look at them on gun broker and they are some in my price range in 38 special. How would the 38 special be to take hunting as a backup not to hunt with thanks

I think a Walther PK380 would be an easy handling gun if you can get your hands on some .380 ammo. The GP100 gets my vote for best do it all revolver.

.22 lr to get started dont go to cheep though you can get a good starter pistol for $250 or so...a good revolver for bout $350 or so @ your local pawn and gun...
