Looking for open carry gun suggestions...

I almost made my avatar "CZ fan".

My CZ 75 B has everything; high sights, threaded barrel, manual safety, maybe even gravity in its ass.
Ran me $629 years ago.
My Les Baer are better, but 4-5 times the price.

I’ve been looking at the CZ P09 because of the price though it lacks the gravitas/reputation I’d like to have for this certain weapon.

If not enough Gravitas / Reputation is a serious part of the decision making process for you I question your qualifications to be an instructor

I think possibly some kind of full size squirt gun may be what you need to be carrying around the range. Your rational here kinda scares me.

And it's possible you're more interested in impressing everyone with how impressive you are with your impressive handgun than you are with actually teaching anyone anything.

So you know how well I do or don’t teach? Feel free to make judgements about things of which you know nothing.

Perhaps it’s possible that you’re just a pathetic troll and I should just ignore you.

Maybe we're not understanding what you're asking but it sounds like you're picking you're next gun based on how well it impresses your clientele.

He's been here 12 years, you've been here 5 minutes

Yes, in part. I frequently find myself teaching people who make lots and lots of money. They see things differently than you or I and believe that if you don’t have top gear then you’re not worth being paid top dollar. They know that when they see me shooting a $400 Glock they’re seeing “average”. But you guys seem to be focusing on one small part of this whole thing and pulling it out as the main thing.

The main thing is that I want a nice pistol for a change. One that I can suppress or use during qualification. Moreover, if I can use those reasons as justification to buy a new gun, then all the better.

Y’all act like impressing clientele is a bad thing... it’s the same as advertising. Anyone who teaches a gun class in shorts, a T shirt, ratty sneakers and a High Point is a tool (and not in the good way).

This is starting to make a little more sense. I still think it's a ridiculous concept but if that's really what you have to do.

Now I know you're full of it.

I've dealt with people who have money too. Real money.

And you know how much they care about how much your personal possessions cost? The same as they do about their own, which is ZERO.

I worked on a car for a lady who is a member of the Weiss family. That would be the same Weiss family who donated part of Memorial Park to the City of Houston. Know what she drove? The same 25 year old 126 body Mercedes she bought brand-new in 1985.

My wife sold a $40 acrylic on paper paining to someone who put it on the wall next to his Picasso - wait, I meant to say original Picasso drawing.

None of these people would care if you taught them to shoot with a Ruger or a Les Baer. Or if you were wearing 5.11 tacticool or old levis and a Motley Crue t-shirt. What they'd care about is how well you taught.

Y’all act like impressing clientele is a bad thing.

My clients (mostly doctors and lawyers) were already impressed with my resume and so were willing to pay three times the going rate.
I haven't been around here that long, but,... perhaps you might want to review your posts and consider the spirit of this site.

What's wrong with using one of the 85 handguns you already have?

Since you seem to doubt the veracity of my claim... I was wrong. There are actually over 90 with the four 1911s and 2 Lugers locked up in a safe deposit box.

Well, considering I just went through a full day of this rich dickhead and his buddy giving me crap about my Canik, I’d say that not all wealthy folks are the same. I’d have shot him but that’s frowned upon by local law enforcement.

Well, I guess that’s it for me. I signed up hoping to get some advice on what’s available in terms of higher end, tactical pistols but it looks like y’all would rather take your frustrations out on the new guy. Thanks to you guys who know something and chose to help. To the rest, I’m sorry your lives suck so bad that you have to troll folks on the internet. May your find some peace in your lives.

The Glock 19 class of handguns will be just fine. Conceal the gun and demonstrate proper concealment, draw, and holstering techniques.

The G19 class includes:

Glock 19
Glock 48
Glock 43X
CZ P10C
S&W M&P 9 M2.0 Compact
HK P30
SIG P320 Compact
Walther PPQ M2
FN 509

and similar guns!

.

First, I would choose 9x19mm since the gun is for training and it will lower your costs by 33% from 45 ACP.

For this role, I recommend the HK P30 Lite LEM. HK has the reputation that you're looking for without stepping into a $1,500-$2,500 1911. It is a very well thought out design. It will work well through a very high round count. Just add Trijicon night sights, a few extra mags, and you're good to go. The HK USP is also a good choice, but I really like the P30. The VP9 is a respectable choice if you need a striker fired gun. I prefer the hammer on the P30 Lite LEM for control during holstering while carrying in the appendix position.

Start reading an insane test of the P30 here: http://pistol-training.com/archives/1406

If you want to get really crazy, get a SIG P210 (standard model). These guns are highly respected and almost everyone will want to shoot it. I do not know how reliable the new P210's are, so it may be a problem like a 1911. This gun is for instructional purposes, so reliability is important...which takes us back to the HK P30.

Also, going with a standard Glock 17 or 19 is a statement. It's a no frills working man's gun. This contrasts with the "Tacticool Rich Boy" HK P30 (that only cost $150-200 more). You can do all the work yourself in case of breakage, swapping sights, etc. Like the HK, it's fine out of the box. Light mods like a KKM barrel, Trijicon night sights, and a modified trigger with 3.5# connector with NY-1 trigger spring are all easily completed at home. The gun will work for a very high round count and parts are cheap.

A 9mm 1911 such as the STI/Staccato P would do well for you so long as reliability was not compromised. People seem to like them and would likely want to shoot it.

You could get a customized OZ-9 from ZEV, but it seems a bit pointless. It'll make a "statement" to some of your clients. Frankly, it's a bit over the top like a custom 1911.

Personally, for an instructor's gun, it's a toss-up between a Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS and an HK P30 LIte LEM. I really like the HK, but the optic mounting ability of the MOS guns means you can teach a red dot class (or demo one).

“...to demonstrate that yes, you can actually hit the target at thirty feet with a decent gun.”

30 feet?

10 yards?

I really don't care. Neither would anyone worth having as a client.

This guy has 100 Guns in a safe and wants some advice on what to buy next to impress his clients? Was this for real?

No $**t. Who's the troll?
