Dixie...I have no copyrights on anything I post online. In fact, chances are I stole it from someone else anyway.
High Planes...I do not shoot much right now because law school takes up all my time.

What a jolly proposed law. Only $25 per weapon for licensing and I saw no provision in the law to allow the transfer of licensed weapons.

Here's the letter I sent

Dear Sir,

I am very concerned with HB 869 referring to so-called "assault weapons" ban. This is a very dangerous piece of legislation that directly infringes on the rights of Law abiding gunowners. The burden solely rests on the Law abiding, as criminals do not care what is against the law and will continue their criminal activity despite this law. The fact that law abiding citizens will now have to pay $25.00 a year to own their weapons is insane. While the criminal that illegally obtained his anyway will pay nothing. I think we are focusing in the wrong area. If you have murder on your mind you will do it with any tool you can use. A more recent example is the Virginia Tech massacre. This was the worst massacre in US history and it was done with two HANDGUNS. We should focus more on felons in possession and people who have been diagnosed with psychological disorders on not being able to possess or own ANY type of firearm or carry any type of weapon on their person. I am a Police Officer. My brother was murdered with a firearm. A criminal murdered my brother and Criminals are who I arrest. I do not fear or blame Law Abiding citizens for any crime.
Please consider this and I beg of you to reject this Legislation

Respectfully submitted,

Over at Bayou Shooter a member received an email from Representative Damon J. Baldone of Houma in which he stated that he has decided to vote against this bill.

The word on this abomination is spreading fast. I just heard it on the Moon Griffon talk show and will take the appropriate action.

IMHO, Damon Baldone is an idiot. But if he has chosen to vote against this bill, I totally support him in his efforts. kudos Damon.

I just read that Cedric Richmond also authored HB 736 - providing parole consideration for prisoners serving time for heroin convictions.
So this guy wants to take restrict law abiding citizens' rights while providing criminals with new rights.
i will personally work on the campaign of anyone running against this guy!!

On Wednesday, May 30 at 9:30 AM in HCR-6, the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee will consider HB 869, a bill that would establish far-reaching restrictions on semi-automatic firearms (dubbing them “assault weapons”) and ammunition magazines. It would target every firearm modified to conform with the now-extinct Clinton Gun-Ban plus many other semi-automatic firearms that have no lineage to those rifles or any military-style orientation whatsoever.

HB 869 would also require current owners of such firearms to register their firearms with the State Police, obtain and renew a license annually to keep them, restrict how and where they may be used or transported, and allow the State Police to inspect private homes for compliance.

Please make plans to attend Wednesday's hearing to sign up in opposition to HB 869, and please contact the committee members below and urge them to vote "NO" on HB 869:

Poor IL

... I keep forgetting about them, until another of the seemingly endless craziness-posts pops up here...

Does anyone from there have any information about the work towards getting something done about Chicago running the state? i heard a while back on XDTALK that there was a small county or something trying to get out from under Chicago's rule.

Just wondering.

Oh! and a big -1 to the AWB...

I thought we already had one...? the unconstitutional NFA? maybe?

Semiautomatic assault weapons are military style guns designed to
quickly kill large numbers of people. The shooter can simply point, rather than 12
carefully aim, the weapon to quickly spray a wide area with a hail of bullets. 13

Am I missing out on some magical semi-auto that is capable of this crap? I want my "hail of bullets" semi-auto, right freakin now!!!

I just read through the requirements to register the "assault weapon". Basicly, it's the NICS check with another fee added on, and you have to describe the weapon in detail on paper. ***!!! Do they think a survivor of a drive-by can identify a specific firearm (say, an SKS) from any other of that type when they and many others are wiped out in a "hail of bullets?"

Just another example of politicians pushing for a bill to combat a problem that doesn't exist. I feel for the families of the 1 in 5 officers gunned down by "assault weapons", but compared to stabbings and other methods of killing, this is not a problem that requires legislation. It requires doing something about crime. Not making more things a crime.
