I've got a more "heavy duty" riggers belt that I picked up at a gunshop that I absolutely love. I also carry AIWB (M&P Shield in a Keepers Concealment holster, small wedge) and I don't find the belt buckle to be too much of a problem. I've seen pictures of guys repositioning the belt buckle to somewhere between the 9 and 11 o clock positions. I usually just pull it to the left until it's hitting the first belt loop.
A couple weeks ago, I went hiking and used one of those cheap webbing belts that came with a pair of shorts from Walmart and I was pleasantly surprised with its performance. I had to keep it tight, but even in a cheap Uncle Mikes IWB holster, it supported my full sized M&P just fine Apendix carry.
The other day I was in REI and they had a riggers belt that was a lot lighter that I thought would probably work Allright. I was going to buy it, but couldn't justify the budget (paramedic students got to eat ). I think it was from a company called Danger Gear or something, and I don't think it was too expensive. Might be worth looking into
