Lube in Lyman cast bullet sizer

HI, I haven't used my lyman bullet sizer for several years and would like to clean out the old sizing lube. Anyone have any Ideas on how best to remove the old lube from the sizer? I had a real hard time removing the sizing die from the old lube.

I suppose it depends on what kind of lube was left in it, but I'd just set it on a cookie sheet in front of a heater vent somewhere and let it warm up and (hopefully) run out. Definitely no propane torches or the like directly on the lube -- most lubes will ignite, and there are rubber parts inside you don't want to damage. Gently warming the whole thing will either liquefy the lube or at least soften it to where it can be scraped out with plastic tools (no metal, the castings scratch easily). Quite frankly, I wouldn't worry about mixing with new lube and lubing a batch of bullets if it can be softened to a point where it flows through the system.
Just my 4 cents worth... inflation, y'know.

A Heat gun will melt it out of the die & the machine in no time flat.

I had not used mine in about 10 yesrs and had the same issue. I took a large pot filled it with water, dropped the luber in it put it on the camp stove and boiled the lube out. I does make a mess but it works. I don't think my wife has ever gotten over that one!

I agree. That is what I did when I had went some time without using the sizer. Warm the sizer up with a hair dryer and the old lube should move OK.

I have had to clean all the old lube out of a Lyman and an RCBS to replace blown seals.

A heat gun works better then anything else I have tried.

Hey thanks for the ideas guys, thought about the boiling but afraid the lyman lube would just coat the entire sizer. Will try the head gun trick and get back to you all on the results.
