A friend of mine lent me his Lyman 450 lubrisizer (he doesn't cast anymore). It will work, but seems it is still a little difficult even with the Lyman IDEAL lube (140 degree melt point and thats low compared to most of todays formulas). Short of buying a base heater, are there any little tricks the forum has developed I could look at to make the lubing a little easier (homemade heating device)?

If you go to the castboolets website you will find bunches of good ideas. The first and easiest is just to shine a 100 watt bulb on it from just a couple of inches away. Zapping it with a heat gun or hairdrier also works, as does propping an iron against it. You can also mount it on a metal plate and set the iron on that.

I simply hit the exposed bottom area (that contains the sizing die) with a heat gun
-- rotating it around to heat evenly -- for about 15 seconds. That seems to work
magic for as long as I usually care to size bullets in one sitting.

Hey, that plate and iron tip sounds great IF I CAN GET IT AWAY FROM MY WIFE WITHOUT HER KNOWING!
The lamp bulb sounds good too and I don't have to listen to the drama if she catches me!
Thanks guys, Catpop

Before I purchased the plate heater for it, I wrappped an old electric heating pad around mine. Held it in place with thick rubber bands. It had only three heat settings, but I got mine to work.

That´s mine Lyman 450.
Within the wooden stand there under temp resistance a hot glue gun which is in contact with the bottom of the sizer to it by the heat. Once this hot sizer should be disconnected to avoid overheating, about 15 minutes by heating to 15 minutes off. It's easy, cheap and works great.
Greetings from España.

I thought the 130-140 melt was about as soft as you could get with solid lubes?
Thanks for all the help.
