Up to now, I have over 700 trouble free rounds through this gun and every time I shoot it the gun grows on me a little more.

I feel I've had enough experience to do a full write up/video review of it and here it is....

Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm Review - YouTube

I do a little shooting, followed by some chronograph numbers, then a tabletop review.

Thanks for all the info., review and shooting. These Shields are really great carry guns, I've been waiting for a long time for a CCW with all the right attributes...and the M&P Shield is it :)

Here's mine in a High Noon Mr. Softy

Thanks for the review! I just put a few rounds through the Shield yesterday and it shot great for the limited time I had to shoot it. I think it will make an excellent carry piece.

Thanks for the great review. I like that you did with an eye toward CCW by talking about how it carries and doing the side by side comparisons to some of the guns competitors.

Will you be retiring the G26 to go to the Shield exclusively? I haven't gotten my hands on a Shield yet, but one of the things I've been debating is whether the thinner profile (and I assume slightly easier to conceal well/comfortably) would be worth giving up the extra capacity of a Glock 19 or Glock 26. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Giving up the G26 for the Shield exclusively---probably not. I've been shooting Glocks since I was legally old enough to wrap my hands around a gun (no guns allowed in my liberal household growing up! :what:) so I don't think I'll ever give them up.

That said, the Shield has earned a place in my rotation with the +p HSTs. The additional recoil with that round is barely noticeable in this little gun.

I don't know if it's worth giving up the extra capacity.... Obviously if I could just carry my AR or AK around I would but carry guns really are about compromise. I think when there's a higher probability of something going wrong I'll still reach for the 26 with the +2 extender. But for day to day carry the Shield will be on my hip a good bit of the time.

The house I grew up in wasn't quite that bad, but it was very strictly hunting arms only, so CCW and self defense weren't in the picture right away. I'm a Glock guy too, G19 for quite a while and just picked up a G26 last week. Without derailing the thread too much, suffice to say I know the draw to the brand but the Shield holds a lot of appeal for me. Yet somehow it'd feel like cheating to switch.

I did get to hold a Shield today at a LGS, but it was their display model only, which everyone was lining up to check out before getting on the the already-long waiting lists that every FFL in town has going. You were spot-on with the trigger, dry firing alone might cause me to spring for one of these.

Thanks again for the review!

You're quite welcome.

already-long waiting lists that every FFL in town has going.

That's not just your FFL; it's nation wide. I'm sure S&W will ramp up production for these now that they have verified the demand for them is strong...

Great review - Thanks

You mentioned that with you it prints a bit in pocket carry. Is that with or without a good pocket holster such as DeSantis?

Thank you.

With a thin leather Galco holster I have that fits it. I have relatively large quads and unless I'm wearing uber baggy pants (which I don't) the length of the grip just prints too much for me. In the video you can see the BG380 even prints a little on me and those pants I'm wearing aren't really tight fitting. For others, it may not be an issue.
