I finally broke down and bought this Rare 1946 Smith & Wesson Military & Police " S " Prefix Revolver from a Collector. He said this is the very best " S " Prefix 5 screw 2" inch example he's seen in 40 years . He said he's seen only 3 similar and knows of the existence of just 3 additional he's not physically seen but is aware of and said to be in other collections. If they are right or wrong, he's unsure and or if they even exist. This collector feels its the single rarest of the standard production " S " Prefix M & P Models. Nickel "S" Prefix M & P's are very scarce in any barrel length, but 2" inch is the hardest to find so this Smith & Wesson collector has found in his many years of collecting.
Does anybody out there have another one like this one ?
Thanks

Post over at the smith-wessonforum.com, where the experts hang (including Roy Jenks and lots of heavyweight collectors) and you'll have a lot of folks weigh in with information that will blow your mind on that nice transitional era post war M&P.

Wow! That's one extremely nice M&P, even more so with the 2" barrel and the nickel finish. Congratulations on a great aquisition!
