I was shooting a USGI M1 Carbine the other day when I ran into some trouble. The carbine started double-firing probably every other time I pulled the trigger, one time even triple-firing. I was shooting Aguila 30 carbine - brand new brass ammo.

My first thought with this is that it is a stuck firing pin, but I don't really have any idea.

Anything I can check or clean to try and fix this?

Well, the first thing to do obviously, is to strip and clean every part of it.

A 'Stuck firing pin' is very unlikely, unless it is broken.

But that will be apparent when you tear it down and clean it.

Pay special attention to dirt and crud in the trigger assembly.
A sticking disconnector could cause you MB fire!

Have you or someone else assaulted the trigger group? If so, revert back to the original GI trigger parts and your problem will disappear.

Probably not the ammo. I suspect it's in the trigger group. The trigger might not be resetting properly. Short stroking could be a cause but most likely the trigger group is the problem.

I would have to concur with RCModel, I'll be willing to bet the firing pin itself is fine. However if the trigger group is crudded up, rusty or in an otherwise non-maintained condition, clean, oil and try again.

Mosin Bubba; M1 carbines are "my thing". Most likely its your Sear or trigger that is worn.
Replace one or both will take care of the problem. If you don't know how to do it, or have someone local, I can do it for you. Pretty sure I have the necessary parts. PM if you need more info. You'd pay only for parts and shipping.

Just to clarify my #7 post above, I'd only need your trigger housing and would test it in one of my carbines.:)

What was your shooting position?
Standing on your hind legs blasting away at a Korean human wave attack?
Or hunkered down on a bench, squeeeezing the trigger to try to make a military weapon into a benchrest rifle?

If the latter, you are "milking the trigger" and getting a bump fire effect. Quit.
If the former, contact ulflyer and get it repaired.

When I first fired my new M1A I was getting what I thought to be the dreaded slam fire". I was a bolt guy until then. Sure enough, to my surprise, I was milking the trigger on recoil. I quit, and the problem went away, right away.
It sure could be something as mentioned, but I would start with the easy bit.
