okay, i know there are books out there and i may get one eventually, but besides this, there isn't much that i don't know about the history of this gun. anyways, i picked up a nice new quality hardware carbine not to long ago from the north store. in the sling cutout there is a "P-J" stamped. the cartouche is next to it but is very light and unreadable. no other markings appear on the stock. the handguard is a 2 rivet type.
i'm really pleased with this gun. the serial number puts it in early 44(around april or so) with an underwood barrel marked "4-44". barrel was a zero on the muzzle gauge. i cleaned it up and cleaned and oiled the stock with tung oil. i would love to post pictures but i haven't taken any good ones yet. i have scoured the net and this forum but didn't find any good answers.

I have a Postal Meter carbine with a PJ marked handguard. The PJ was a parts supplier code. They also made butt plates besides stocks. They were one of MANY second party parts suppliers who then forwarded those parts to the final assembly compnay for government contract durin g WWII. I ahve not been able to figure out exactly who they were, yet....

There were two "J" stock suppliers, Jamestown Lounge and Jewel Bros.
"P-J" might be one of those (the "P" being "for Postal Meter.")

well, according to the gentleman at cmp, quality used parts from many other suppliers(hense my underwood barrel). i don't remember what it said about stocks. maybe the stock is original?:what: (wishful thinking on my part). do the various books out there cover these kind of stampings as well? i may have to hit up barnes and noble.
