okay, i know there are books out there and i may get one eventually, but besides this, there isn't much that i don't know about the history of this gun. anyways, i picked up a nice new quality hardware carbine not to long ago from the north store. in the sling cutout there is a "P-J" stamped. the cartouche is next to it but is very light and unreadable. no other markings appear on the stock. the handguard is a 2 rivet type.
i'm really pleased with this gun. the serial number puts it in early 44(around april or so) with an underwood barrel marked "4-44". barrel was a zero on the muzzle gauge. i cleaned it up and cleaned and oiled the stock with tung oil. i would love to post pictures but i haven't taken any good ones yet. i have scoured the net and this forum but didn't find any good answers.
