I am going to a 700 yard range today. My rifle is already zeroed at 100 yards. My rear sight is set in meters....and I have already made the yards to meters measurements. I need to know how to adjust my rear sight to hit the targets at 700? I have a small manual but it is very vague. I would think turn the knob till the 600 meter hash line? Any suggestions would be great!

Remember this sequence of numbers: 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,8,8.

Those are your come-ups in MOA/clicks for each hundred yard increment, starting at 100 yards and going out to 1000. So to go to your 700 yard setting from 100, you should go 3,3,4,4,5,5 -- which is 24 clicks. This is for standard ball ammo, so YMMV if you are shooting handloads or match ammo or something.

BTW, meters are about 10% longer than yards, if you ever need to convert between the two.

Where did you get a Garand whose rear sight increments are in meters? Mine, a CMP Garand, has 1/2 minute adjustments for elevation, and 1 minute adjustments for windage.
The amount of "come up" can vary greatly depending on the load you happen to be shooting with regards to bullet weight, shape and velocity. I fired my Garand here at the house on my 600 yd. range using Greek HXP. I assumed this ammo was ballistically similar to the original U.S. load for which the Garand sights were regulated. So, I raised the elevation what was supposed to be the correct amount, but didn't register a hit on the 36" target. So with the aid of a spotter, I began holding high then low until I finally got a hit and adjusted my sights from there.
If you can tell us exactly what load you're using, it would be relatively simple to run an on-line ballistic calculator and give you the figures. The easiest way to do it is to get the trajectory figures and first sight your rifle in a 100 yds. andraise the sights to give you the proper point of impact at 100 to put your bullet on at 700.
I used this method for my Swiss K-31 and my first shot hit the 600 yd. target afterwhich I made the necessary windage and fine elevation adjustments.
Good luck,

My rear sight is set in meters....

Its a M14 sight?

Where did you get a Garand whose rear sight increments are in meters?

You can use a M14 sight on a Garand. Then it would be graduated in meters.

I went to the range before I got a chance to read your replies. Thank you very much for your help and responses. But being new to it, I used the informational paper that was included with my rifle, which I got from the CMP. The range is 700 yards which is approximately 640 meters. I turned the elevation knob until I reached the hash mark directly between 600-700 meters. Fired miy first round and to my suprise I was only 6 inches high and 6 inches to the right (very strong winds yesterday). Two clicks down and I was hitting the 3x3 steel plate almost everytime. I was using Greek HXP ammo from the CMP. I was actually really suprised to adjust the sights by the hash marks and it actually doing exactly what it's supposed to. Awesome! It was fun....but still having a BIG problem with the 7th round stoppage. Tried all the tests, it passed and still nothing..can't figure it out. Receiver is 5.8 million series.
