I have a Springfield Armory 1942 Garand in nice condition. The problem is the clip will not lock or snap in to place when pushed down. I can close the bolt over the top of the clip, then it will stay locked. When I push the release button the clip pops free. It just won't lock like it should when loading. Any advice? Thanks

Are you saying that you are able to get it to chamber a round, but it requires a manual assist or 'bump' of the operating handle to do so? If so, does it feed and fire the remainder of the clip Ok?

Usually, the problem is a bent or worn follower rod arm, a bent arm on the operating rod catch or a faulty en-bloc clip.
Every now and then it is a worn clip latch or broken clip latch spring but since your clip will latch down after the bolt rides over the clip, I am thinking the follower rod arm is bent.
