Hi, I've at least a couple of questions:

How similar are the safeties between M1, M1A/14 and M1carbines?

Second, how do they work (blocking firing pin, sear, trigger or whatever)?

Kina obvious I've yet to jump on the Garand wagon, but I do plan to.

The safety on the M1 and M1A/M14 are identical, and in fact are interchangeable.

They function by doing two things:
1. block the sear portion of of the trigger from moving forwards when pressure is applied to the trigger
2. engage a surface on the hammer to prevent hammer movement if the sear should fail.

The safety on the M1 is thus a "two function" safety, making it one of the best ever created.

The M1 carbine safety is COMPLETELY different, in that it one performs ONE function: it blocks the front of the trigger body from being moving downward, and in doing so, prevents the sear from moving out of engagement with the notch in the hammer.
