Hey fellas, I've been in the process of scoping out my M1A. I've already got me a good rail, and going to get some nice rings. Going to add a check weld on it. Now all I need is the optic itself. Since this is going to be my first real venture into optics I need some suggestions. I would like a optic somewhere around a 3.5-12 or 3.5-9 at the very lest. Something that can take a 7.62x51 round. This is the real important thing to me anyways (and if I'm misguided please correct me) is having bullet drop markings on my sight for the 7.62x51 or .308 with this gun. I have no clue if there is such a thing, and if there is how to search for it. I'm really trying not to go over 600 but I'm flexable.

I would recommend a scope with at minimum a mil-dot reticle. On my M1A I have a Springfield Gov't Model 4x14x56. They are no longer made but I think they can be had online if you look. I learned later they were made by Nikon. It has a range finding reticle out to 1000 yrds. that is calibrated for bullet drop of a 168 gr. 30 cal bullet @ 2700 fps. It has an internal bubble level that allows you to keep the rifle squared and level.
I bought mine new years ago for about $650. My boss just bought one online for $400. I know people will poo poo it but they are only talking out their behinds. I have thousands of rounds using it and it is precise enough to shoot sub-MOA groups at 100 yrds. and to hit gallon size water jugs at 800+ yrds.
