Can you fine folks here give me a heads up of what is to be expected at machine gun shoots. In Reno on september 29th through the first of october, there is going to be one at the Mustang Range. My Girlfriend and I are considering going. Just wondering if it's worth the money ($20 each round for an m-79  )

I went to Knob Creek several years ago, fired not a round, and had a lot of fun. You can attend just to see the exotic stuff shooters will bring, and the amount of ammo expended when the main line is hot.

I have been to a few subgun matches, shot, and had fun. It helps to have your own subgun for these. :) Haven't shot one this year and wish I could make time.

I've also been to a commercial shoot in Minnesota where I dropped qute a bit of money, quite quickly. I got to shoot a mag or two through guns I have not seen since. I thought it was worth the expense.

A bowling pin match I used to go to had side matches with subguns. Other MGs, including a .50 cal M2 could be shot for a fee per mag or belt. Now I wish I'd shot some more of the MGs. I did shoot the .50, a FND, an M16, an Italian 9mm subgun, the Beretta 38/42, and a few others. Fun, fun, fun!

HTH.

When we have our by invitation only machine gun shoots we get about 30-40 guns here and we always have a blast. we get everything from 50 cal m-2 to m60's and a bunch of sub guns. we usually trade out shooting each others guns.we even blow up some tannerite.
even the onlookers have a good time .the sheriffs dept usually shows up and trys out our firepower.

the last shoot I went to had a jeep with mounted fifty cals, a hum-vee with a mounted mini gun, assorted machine guns and full auto's, and one guy even brought his light cannon out to the range

Whatever you spend--it's worth every penny!!!! Went to Knob Creek in April and had a literal blast! Didn't find out until it was too late that you could fire from the helicopter this year. :( You can make it as expensive as you want but you have to try at least one of the "big toys". Aahhhh--nothing like ripping a minivan in half! :D

Finch, we have machine gun matches right here in Las Vegas every month. If you come out, you can certainly use my gun and I am sure that most people there will be glad to let you use their gun if you don't have your own.

Here is a website that lists a lot of the shooting activity in the Las Vegas area including the machine gun matches: http://vegasshooters.proboards2.com/index.cgi You can also contact a lot of local shooters that are into NFA weapons on the Hometown section of AR15.com. Some of those guys shoot with us, others go down to Sloan to shoot. I remember reading something about that match you refer to, on AR15.com

If you want to try any of those matches I either participate in them or know someone that does that would be happy to show you the ropes.
