magnum primer question

Most reloaders don't even use a magnum primer with AA#9.
And I am one of those, though I have worked up loads for both. My older accurate data lists CCI 500 for #2 through #9.
9.7gr of #7 is light load for this bullet, I'd like see better than 89 fps for the ES. I have 9.2 and 9.5gr with CCI 550 loaded for testing.
As you known mag. primers can be of benefit where standard primers are the norm :)

Well those sucked to :( for my target velocity I will move on to Accurate #5 for this bullet.
I think AA#5 will work better for you. Since it's a faster powder you can raise the pressures so that you get a better burn and most probably better ES and SD numbers too.

For the same purpose I usually load HS-6 which is in the same burn rate range as AA#5 and those loads are very accurate in my revolvers.

I use whatever the book calls for.

Most of my books say to use small pistol primers on .38 Special.
Most of my books say to use small pistol magnum primers on .357 Mag.

I use the KISS method ..... follow the book.

And it did.
Penn 140gr LRNFP Premium grade
CCI 500
R-P case 1.280"
8.2gr Accurate #5
Ruger Sec. Six 2.75"
Avg Vel. 1,029 fps
ES 23.4 fps

I will try WSP next :)

There you go, that's good!

BTW, I use both CCI-500 and WSP primers in my reloads and see little to no difference in the results. Please let us know if you do see a difference, that's more good information to have...
