Magpul MOE AK47/AK74 Grip Review

Like many of you I've been waiting to get my paws on Magpul's new AK grip since seeing it at SHOT show and it's arrived. Here are my thoughts on it:

Pros:

-Feels much better in the hand than the standard AK grip
-I like the texturing on it better than the AR MOE grip
-Reasonably priced (generally around $20)
-The storage compartment is compatible with other MOE grips out there


Cons:

-It comes with a flat head screw. I'd rather see a phillips or hex screw but I'm really just trying to find something that could be improved upon here.


Here's my review with some shooting, a comparison to a AR MOE grip, Hogue AK grip, US Palm AK grip, and a standard com-bloc AK grip:

I watched this review yesterday just didn't have time to make a comment. So, what do you prefer, the Magpul or the US Palm and why? I have larger hands and long fingers. I know it's only a $20 or so dollar purchase but I already have a big box of accessories for gun stuff that never worked for me and several purchases pending that have my bank account tapped for now so if I get the wrong one it's a $40+ deal once I get it straightened out.

I'm curious as to thoughts on this as well. I have a US Palm grip on my Saiga conversion, and while it's far superior to the stock grip or other popular grips like the SAW-style, it has never really grown on me.

My favorite ever grip for AK is the one on the robarms vepr combo grip. I cut the grip off one of those and it was awesome.

Good review. This is just in time for a Saiga I'm doing next week.

I'm looking forward to getting this. Been using a US Palm grip for a while now on my other AK, and I love it. I'm mostly interested in the grip texture... I had to stipple the US Palm grip to get a decent grip.

My Saiga conversion had a saw grip for compliance purposes...until now.
I got the MOE this week and installed it right away. I have not got it to the range yet, but I really like the way it handles.
I'm hoping MagPul brings out a MOE style handguard for the Saiga.

That would be really cool.

The standard Saiga handguard is actually pretty good. It would be even better with a little texture and a heat shield.

My Saiga conversion had a saw grip for compliance purposes...

Mine to, I replaced it with a Hogue. I prefer the Hogue AR grip to the MagPul AR grip so I won't be in a hurry to try this one.

All things considered, I prefer te stock Comblock grip to the SAW grip, but it was a compliance part I needed when I first started.

Stippling goes a LONG way in helping with the US Palm. And only takes about 30 minutes.

The swells on the sides of the MagPul do fill the hand very nicely...subtle, but one of the best design features.

I watched another review on this grip and the guy ran his finger across the textured portion. It didn't seem as though it is rubberized, as it made noise like it was a solid polymer. Is it rubberized in feel like the AR one I've tried, or is this a hard plastic throughout?

Good to see another quality product by Magpul. I love the feel of Magpul AR grips, so I'm sure this new AK grip would be a good upgrade to any AK. I'm waiting for the AK mags as well, in the meantime I might order this new AK grip and give it a try.
