I loaded up 15 rounds this weekend for my 357 handi rifle and 5 of the printers ended up with a little pin hole in them. You almost wouldnt have noticed except for the black soot right in the center of the depression and you really need a sharp point to feel it. The loads I was shooting were MagTech SP magnum primers, 14.5 grains of 2400 and a .358 158g cast bullet. No signs at all of excessive pressure otherwise. Are Magtechs considered to be a "soft" primer? Do others see stuff like this?

MagTech primers are right behind Federal on the softness scale. I load a lot of them in .38 Special, but they're light Cowboy loads. I find them very reliable for my use.

Hope this helps.

Good to know.
I'd have been more likely to suspect them to be very hard as I've found most everything but Federals.
FWIW; Fiocchi have been the hardest I've found.

Good to know as I have not started on my magtech pistol primers.

My advice, cut your loads. I shoot 158 L with 13.5 grains 2400 in the 357 Magnum. I consider your load of 14.8 as above my maximum.

Yeah, Im going to try cutting back some. I was 14.5 not 14.8. I will also check the firing pin as I was wondering about that too.
