I realize that there are numerous threads on this forum and others about upgrading MAK-90's, however mine has a little different problem.
The top picture shows what my rifle currently looks like. I've just added the galil hand guard and I'd eventually like to switch out the trigger, and add a black Tapco pistol grip and a standard wood butt stock.
The second picture shows the cut of the receiver. I just want to make sure what type of cut it is before I order anything. This is an angle cut correct?
The third picture shows my problem in adding a standard butt stock. I'm not sure how common it is for MAK's to have a back plate welded on but mine does (see bottom of post for the story behind the weld for those that care). By looking at the welds, does anyone know if I could carefully break them myself to take the plate out, or should I contact a welder, or should I leave it alone for safety sake?
I had sold this rifle to a friend a few years ago and upon his stripping it down discovered that the "back plate" was loose. He thought it could be a safety issue so I gave him his check back and he gave me the rifle. My friend recommended I contact a welder to have the plate welded back on. Not realizing it could be my opportunity to change out stocks, I had it welded back on. My friend didn't want the rifle anymore as he was only going to trade it for some work done to his house and the opportunity for him had passed. So I've been looking at the rifle for a while wanting to spruce it up.
Thanks for any and all help.
