Makarov 7.65

Recently my father told me he has the opertunity to get a Makorov 7.65 ww2 russian sniper rifle. He asked if I could get a ball park figure on this gun. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or if there was anything I should have him findout to help determine price.

Well I dont know of any "makarov" rifles, I know about the pistol though.
The only russian rifles from world war 2 that I know they used are the SVT 40 and various models of Mosin Nagants. Maybe its a Mosin Nagant?

Well I have to admit I'm not to sure on the name just that he said it was a Russian Sniper Rifle from WW2 chambered in 7.65 Just figured I'd ask here for him .

He probably meant 7.62 and he probably means a mosin nagant. The only 7.65 cartridges i know of are the 7.65 luger, 7.65 x 17 browning, both of which are pistol rounds.

Make certain it is real! There are alot of fakes on the market.

If the screw heads on the scope are flat (not rounded) it is a fake.

If the date is 1941 or earlier, it is a fake.

It the receiver is not a high-wall receiver (receiver wall on left side not tapered) it is a fake.

If the scope mount is aluminum or matte (with a cast appearance) it is a fake.

If the wood inletting on the left side of the stock looks fresh, it is probably a fake.

If it is real, it will depend on the maker/year. $700 for a genuine Izhevsk, about $900 for a geniuine Tula.

You can get them with repro scopes for a little over $340.

If it is a real, legitimate SVT-40 sniper, it's value will be above $2,000 as they are very rare. If it does not have a rear notch on the receiver to anchor the mount, it is not real. If the notch is not finished EXACTLY like the rest of the metal, it is not real. AND, if there are not markings inside the notch, it is not real. These markings are specific (but not broadcast on the web to avoid fakery).

Of course, standard Tokarevs in decent condition seem to be going for as much as $700-$800 these days. Add the repro scope mount and scope and that's at least another $250-$350. So you're looking at $900-$1000 even if it is a fake.
