Making a Becker BK14 trainer

Hi,

I am looking for one of two things to complement my new BK14 (not yet arrived :banghead

-A pre-made trainer with a similar OAL (7", 3.25" blade) and handle shape to the BK14. I am adding micarta scales to my BK14 but that doesn't make a ton of difference. I will be practicing with the Ed Van Hoy biotac (similar to Mercharness - it was a matter of availability) so an eyelet sheath or the off chance it would fit the BK14 sheath would be great.

-A cost effective and reasonably easy way to make a trainer...It doesn't have to be exact! I don't want to grind down another BK14 for training purposes but if someone knows of a similar CHEAP fixed blade, or a molding process or type of material that'd work, please let me know!

A thought...carefully rounded PVC? What products are available in PVC other than round pipes?

get cardboard the same thickness as the Becker, cut out he cardboard to match the Becker, have a machine shop cut a blank the same size/shape from brass or stainless and round the edges and put more micarta scales from Becker/KaBar on it. Same weight (at least with the steel) and balance, but without the edges.

Since you don't need to heat treat or use tool steel you'll come out cheaper. If you're good with a plasma torch (and have access to one) you can cut it yourself and then sand the edges/point down.

Cool idea hso, I sent some emails to machine shops. Thanks. I will probably use a duct tape wrap and have them beef the handle up relative to the bk14 so I don't need to spend $15 + shipping just yet on more micarta scales.

Also, while we're on the bk14 topic, how viable is a leather holster for vertical inverted carry, if it's molded well enough? I have a woman who does magic with leather, I think she may be able to pull it off.

I will post pics of my BK14 once I RIT dye it green or purple and have a leather sheath w/ eyelets

Vertical inverted carry? I have yet to see a sucessful method outside of hollywood, that did not involve tons of duct tape and velcro. If your lady is good you might have something.

Kydex works for vertical inverted carry. It's what most neck knives use. Did you mean you've never seen leather work for that?
