I think I saw somewhere that there is a device you put in your press and you can punch out your own gas checks from aluminum, thin copper, ect... has anyone seen this before? If so, do you know where I might be able to get one? I'd be looking at making 30 cal gas checks for a 312 diameter mold I just purchased.

Pat Marlin, over on the castboolits Forum makes and sells dies for making your own gas checks. He makes them for regular gas check shanked bullets and also makes them to add a gas check to a plain base bullet. I've got his makers in several calibers and they work pretty good.

Here's the link to his site: http://www.patmarlins.com

Hope this helps.

ReloaderFred- Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking of! I remember now think that it's a neat idea because you could put them on plain base bullets.

Dgod- This is my first bullet that is made for gas checks. I remember looking at the price and thinking "man, $22? I wonder if there's a cheaper way." Then never looked at the actual quantity... $22 for 1000 is just fine for the amount of shooting I do. Thanks guys!
