NY's so-effective gun restriction laws have put a man in jail for firing into the ground in front of a large group (20+) of would-be gang assailants who were approaching his home and threatening him, claiming reckless endangerment. They mention a Shot-Spotter technology, which can apparently alert police to the sound/location of a gunshot immediately. How's this thing work? Is the entire area under video/audio surveillance 24/7?

....also...screw NY.

With all due respect, you do not leave your home to engage the criminals. Had he stayed inside he could have popped them as they came over the threshhold, or moved the family upstairs and engaged the perps as they came up the stairwell. He would have been on much firmer ground both tactically and legally.
