We have had a good week and it's only Tuesday! 
We won a Monday afternoon-Wednesday morning hunt through Texas Parks and Wildlife, for an antlerless/spike hunt on a ranch in McCulloch County, outside Brady, Texas. The entries for the draw hunts were $10. Each of us was allowed two deer, either spikes or does. Rich got two does, I got a spike and a doe. Between us we got 222 dressed pounds of deer, which will fill the "trophy case" (our freezer!) quite nicely. And gun season is still weeks away.
Great folks at the ranch, and we learned that they also sell hunts, for dirt cheap in comparison to many in central Texas. Heavens, the ranch manager actually tipped his hat to me when greeting me for the first time and again tonight when we said goodbye. We both have made our quotas, and head home a half day early.
Great times, great people, great week. We got a lot of fun out of watching the trophy bucks sashay around the feeders. There was a 10-point at Rich's stand who was so incredibly goofy. It was like he was posing for a practice deer target. At one point he walked by so close to the blind (snagging all the corn sprinkled around, of course) that Rich could almost have reached out and hit him with a hammer if he'd been legal to take! I had an 8-point from my stand, who was not quite that goofy, though he was certainly careless about presenting himself available for a shot if it had already been November!
It was good to be back, fun to have all the other hunters (every one male) welcome me as another hunter and be glad to see my successes. Rich's camera doesn't store pix for some reason, so we have no pix of his. But here's my two. Tasty venison coming up!
