A dispute about safe driving habits escalated into a shooting at a trailer park near downtown Ridgecrest on Saturday.
According to the Ridgecrest Police Department, the manager of the trailer park at 415 W. Ridgecrest Blvd. engaged in an argument with the driver of a white van. At issue was the driver’s habit of driving through the trailer park at speeds the manager considered unsafe.
According to reports, after several arguments, manager Leo Ferda told the driver that if he did not stop speeding through the parking lot, Ferda would shoot his tires out.
Despite the threat, the driver reportedly sped through the trailer park.
That’s when Ferda allegedly aimed his .22 caliber rifle at the van’s tires and fired. According to police reports, all four tires were shot.
Police were summoned to the scene in response to the shots fired. There they found the two men who had been inside the van, which sat where it stopped in the middle of the trailer park’s dirt drive.
Officers contacted Ferda and arrested him. They cited him for four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of brandishing a weapon and one count each of making terrorist threats and illegally transporting a firearm.
Ferda posted bail later that evening.
Deputy District Attorney Perry Patterson said his office has not yet considered how it will prosecute the case.
