Hello! I am a 20-something college kid interested in obtaining my FFL so that I can eventually start my own business. However, I am a permanent resident of Indiana and I don't necessarily want to lose this residency. I rent property and attend school in Ohio and I do not plan on living here for the remainder of my life or much longer, unless I decide to go to grad-school. Yes, I know I am a glutton for punishment. :neener:

How hard is it for someone to obtain an FFL?

I am not looking for a way to "beat" or "cheat" the system. I am wondering if it is possible for me to get an FFL through my Indiana address and still have firearms sent to me through a different address such as Ohio. I am unawares if this is legal or not. I'd contact a lawyer, but I don't have one.

If I do get my FFL in Indiana and eventually move can I transfer my FFL from one state to another?

I am heavily interested in starting a firearms business and I am wondering if I should just wait until I dig roots into a place or start now and roll with the punches. All advice is appreciated.

The best thing you can do is to visit the BATF website and read up on how to obtain an FFL. http://www.atf.gov/

Have you talked to gun shop owners to see what they did to start their business? Getting the FFL license is only one part of it. Starting a business (regardless of what it is) is something else.

I know that every premisis that you do business at needs to be licensed:
ie> your shop in XYZ, STATE would have a seperate license from the one at ABC, STATE. I know of one gun shop that operates in both NY and MA, and they have seperate FFL's as required.
