March on DC. Need 200,000 participants!

OK, during one of the Alternative to Bush discussions (that project is finished - it was only for the primaries - the next POTUS will be either Bush or Kerry - vote accordingly), the wish that we could produce 200,000 shooters in a march on Washington was voiced. Fine! I'm commited to making that happen. Are you as commeted to being part of it? It's going to happen on Mother's Day, so if you want to see 200,000 of us in a March on Washington, the time is now to make the commitment to be there, to tell our mothers, wives, significant others that next year, we're going to be in DC. It's time to start setting aside whatever funds it will take to get us there, and just keep the commitment to the Next year in DC project. Oh, yeah, each one of you who decides to commit to being there, please also commit to bringing one other person with you (perhaps your mother, wife, significant other other) as well as talking about it wherever and whenever the opportunity arises.

Wait a minute, Mothers' Day is when Second Amendment Sisters holds their counter march against the Million Mom March. Yeah! A ready made march on DC. What could be easier? No big planning. Just commit to being there. That's all it takes is a commitment that you will not allow excuses to alter. This year mine was, "Well, either they'll have a lot of people there so they won't need me, or they won't have many, in which case one more won't help". Yeah! Right! The fact of the matter is that the most powerful take on this would have been, "If I make it, so will a lot of others; If I don't, they won't either".

So, I'm asking everyone to commit, right now, to be in DC on Mothers' Day 2005, and bring someone with you. And one other thing. Pass the word. Every time you go to the range or a club meeting, bring this up. Talk it up wherever you go. Let's all MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Yeah, I think so.

But it may be one of our last opportunities.

My attitude is that the next POTUS will be either Bush or Kerry. The Dems are still PO'ed about the 2000 election so Nader won't be a factor. Therefore, I'm going to volunteer as a campaign worker for Bush, and would advise everyone to do the same.

But why wait until next year? If we want to make a difference, make a point, make our voices heard, we had better do it now, during the election year.

Next year will be too late. By then we will have either Bush, who is semi-pro gun and a lame duck president who can do what he wants, or Kerry, who is very anti-gun and has four years ahead to get all manner of gun laws passed, as President.

The Clinton gun ban is scheduled to sunset on September 13th, a Monday. I think the march would be more effective the weekend prior to that, the 11th and 12th.

At that time, the media will be all over the impending AWB sunset. We will be only two months from the election and most kids will be back in school, which may help the parents get to D.C. easier. Both major political parties will be in their two month special spending window as dictated by the campaign laws.

Our opponents are already ramping-up for the general election and to fight for extending the AWB.

What are we doing?

I've written letters, emails and called my political reps countless times. But I've never marched for my rights. Count me & the Mrs. in on this.

This is obvious and shouldn't be stated, but march participants cannot bring guns. If I start reading here or on other boards that this is becoming any kind of an armed march, you can count me out. Just one armed @$$hole in this and you can kiss all our 2A rights goodbye.

Good to have you aboard. Please pass the word and talk it up. We've got a year to get people on board. If we start now, people can plan their other activities around this rather than trying to fit it in.

It would be nice to have a "Let it Sunset" march, but I don't have the ability to do that. All I can do is try to enrole people in the idea of getting feet on the street at an existing function.

I may be able to make it.

I live in the People's Republic of Montgomery County, MD (where not acquiescing to Democratic wishes leaves you a target of the pogroms; not that I'm republican, either) and would be able to make it on a weekend to the city. I am fully in support of a march but we should keep it as nonpartisan as is feasible. It should be entirely issue-based if it is to happen Sept. 11/12th.

Okay I don't think September 11th would be a good day, for obvious reasons. But I'm game, sounds like a wild road trip from Io-Way. Just pick a date so I can put it in the calendar.

An appropriate symbol

Of course, we can't bring guns -that would be illegal.

So what should 200,000 2A supporters show up with? What symbol would directly illustrate the circumstances we are in?


An empty holster.

Imagine two hundred thousand empty holsters, empty magazine holders, bandoleers-the symbols of a once-proud people who are no longer free to arm themselves. 200,000 places where a civilian firearm could be protecting someone.

Maybe I could collect holsters from those who cannot show up. Two million holsters?

An idea to think about.

Mothers' Day, 2005 unless...

...NRA or GOA or some other recognized group decides to put one together before that.

I once went to a "meet your congressman" event at the local postoffice and wore a 3 piece business suit. It was amazing how may people came up to me prior to the actual start of the event who thought I was the congressman. That would be a little too much for this, but keep in mind that part of the function of being there in big numbers is to produce a positive perception by the general public. Camo, BDUs, SWAT type clothing and "Kill 'em all; Let God sort 'em out" T-shirts would be counter productive. Dress nice.

If you want to be nasty, considering that the Mothers' Day SAS event is a counter to the MMM event, a sign with the "First Million Mom March" picture on it might be good. (Actually it 2 pictures. The first is of a group of naked women being herded to a pit by some Nazis and the second is of them dead in the pit). Don't know how SAS would feel about that, though, so check with them first.
