Im about to put a gohst ring on my 1894ss and was wondering if I will have to drill and tap new holes, or do the holes in the top of the reciever fit the gohst ring holes? Also, is this a pretty reliable gun? (for hunting and home defense)

The most famous of the "ghost-ring" sights is the XS-Sight Systems.

http://www.xssights.com/store/rifle.html

It screws to the rear scope base holes already in the receiver.

Many Marlins were also drilled in the left side for receiver sights, which is, IMO, a better alternative to an XS ghost ring.

The reason being, they are more easily & precisely adjusted.

And they use screw-in apertures of different sizes for most excellent accuracy.

With the aperture removed and safely in your pocket, they become the original "ghost ring" sight.

The Williams FP is as good as it gets.
