I found a Marlin 336C in 30-30 at my fav GS today, only $269.00 in 95% condition. Is this as good a deal as it looks? It has a gold trigger, do all of them ahve that?

I sold my 30-30 to get a .357mag Winchester and would love to have a 30-30 again.

.

I am in just the opposite boat.. I've got a 94AE .357 and now I'd like a
30-30 lever! Something about those levers...

anyhow, off topic, but do you like the Win .357 ? I love mine. Just got it.

Also, relative to prices on used 30-30 levers in my local GS (CO), I would say
that is a pretty good deal.

I LOVE the winnie in .357! Cheap to shoot and funn. I want another 30-30 because I like the cartridge, and have about 200 rounds left from my Winchester in 30-30 that I sold to get the .357mag. The .357 is a rifle with a 23in barrel and the Marlin I am contimplating is a carbine in 16.5.

Does it have a cross bolt safety??

If it's in 95% condition, I'd try and get it for $225, but if not, $250 would seem a fair price... at least in my neck of the woods here in s.w. Idaho.

What the heck, If you have the $$ go ahead and get it. They usually only go up in price. Are you sure it is a C? I have never seen a C with a gold trigger. Usually the W model comes with the gold trigger. Make sure since the W sells new for less than the C does.

Wited, that is exactly where I am. I HAVE the Winchester in .357, and want another lever 30-30 so I think I'll go ahead and buy this one.

I didn't want to sound like a know it all but I just didn't want you to get ripped off by someone. I didn't know they made the C with a gold trigger in earlier models.
Have fun.

For a pre crossbolt 336 in like new condition, that is a good price. To me, the older Marlins have better fit and finish and slicker actions.

'67 Shooters Bible: 336-C Carbine, 20" bbl., .30-30 or .35 Rem., "trigger is '4k gold-plated"

"...priced at $89.95" :)

The 336-T entry says 24k gold-plated. Guess the '4k is a typo.

That's a pretty decent price for a 'C' if you ask me. Less than I paid.

How's the furniture. If it's a 'C' it should have nice Walnut. No two Walnut stocks are alike...so if you think she's a peach, take her home.

Another bene' of the older 336 (pre-2001 if I'm not mistaken) is that they come tapped on the port side of the receiver for appeture sights.

If you put on a William's (which I recommend you do) get the model that uses the side holes and not the top scope holes. The one that screws on the top rides higher, may requires a taller front blade and I've heard (but not seen) that they hang off the back of the receiver. One guy said he actually had to use the hammer extension.

Much better with side screw mount.....but make sure you get the correct one.

16" barrrel?? Was it cut down? I like the 20" myself.

OBTW, not all 'C's have the gold trigger. Mine doesn't.
