Marlin 39A tube damage?

So it seems i have a problem. When i was at the range the end of the outer tube on my 39a got damaged (probably via impact with the lock on the inner tube when it is dropped in).

Now I can't get the inner tube to lock in place, I'm trying to readjust the damaged part so that it will work again but I can't seem to find the right spot.

Have anyone else had this problem?

With a rifle like the 39A, I'd just get a replacement tube and not mess with a kludge.

Use something as a mandrel and beat the tube back into spec. My 39 is ancient and shows signs of that having happened several times before I obtained it, yet it works fine now.
