I would guess that the gun was not factory this way but if anyone has seen another or has an idea what purpose this gun was used for please share.

The gun is an 1893 model Marlin lever with a 26" barrel chambered in 32-40. The unique part is that the top of the receiver is serrated, the rear sight dovetail is filled with a blank. and the front sight is a dovetail base with a shotgun bead.

The straight stock and forearm are checkered . The barrel is rifled . Did someone just like to shoot it like a shotgun ? or does anyone know another purpose for doing this. The work is well done as in proper gunsmithing, not a crude home done thing.

Update : After getting a chance to look at this gun closer it is a modified 1893 . I suspect used for indoor or limited area exibition shooting. Bore has been reemed at the muzzle and the although rifling is strong it looks like the whole bore might have been taken out to a larger size. Also the chamber so I will do a chamber and bore casting. Wish this gun could talk though as the work is all professionaly done. I wonder who used it ?
