Make an 1894C in .44 magnum. I love the short barrelled .44's for deer hunting, but Winchester is the only company that makes them (or at least until March). I love the 16" Winchester Trapper in .44 magnum it carries, points, and shoots well.

But I would really like to have a similar Marlin produced rifle. For a while I believe they made a 16" gun with ports, but I do not really want ports on a short barrelled .44, muzzleblast is not something I want to deal with on that rascal. They currently have have a stainless laminated version in .44, but I do not want to drop 5 or 6 bills for a lever gun. The 1894C has an 18" barrel which would work but to my knowledge it is only available in .357 magnum.

If someone knows about what I am looking for existing, let me know. If not, you folks at Marlin, I will buy a rifle from the first production run you make of .44 Magnum short barrelled, 1894's that use wood and blued steel. Also, please make it not cost so much that I have to mortgage my children to buy it.

Ruger 96/44 just too fugly for you?

Personally, I find it to be aesthetically repulsive. But it is a compact .44 Magnum lever gun...

BTW have you seen Puma 1892 repros?

They're very nice.

A thought to consider. .45LC is available in heavier loads than .44 Magnum. Puma has a blue .45LC lever gun with a 16" barrel and a large loop (prevents lever bite on recoil). Street price around $400, I think.

Yes, the Ruger is just so ugly I cannot bear to own one. Plus, I want it to look at least a little bit cowboyish!

The .45LC is a great round, but logistically I am already geared up to load for the .44 magnum.

Ive got a Puma 44 mag in 20" its a nice shooting rifle and the action on mine is very smooth. Last week I looked at a new Win in 44 mag. Took 2 men and a boy just to work the lever. Didn't feel near as nice against my shoulder. I decided to keep my Puma.
