I have acquired a small 5 shot single action chrome plated revolver. The only markings on it are “TER” on the grips and “Marquis of Lorne” on the top strap. No date, no serial number, no other markings at all.

If anyone has any info on this thing I would appreciate it.

Hood Firearms Company, Norwich, Connecticut 1873 to 1883. " The Marquis of Lorne was a 32 caliber (rimfire) sheathed trigger solid frame non-ejecting revolver made in the late 1870. Also listed uder Suicide Specials ". To save time and expense the barrel is smooth bored, but to deceive buyers the first 1/2 inch of the barrel had five groves in the bore.

You guys are good, Thanks!

Any idea of the value of this thing? It is in very good condition.

AS a guide only, the Standard Catalog of Firearms lists it at 200 in very good, 100 in good,75 in fair and 50 in poor. The real value is how much some one is willing to pay for it and how bad do you need the rent money.

If the finish is original, it is nickel, not chrome, since chrome plating was not done at the time the gun was made.

IMHO, those values are generous. Most dealers around here won't even take that type of gun in trade since they can't sell them and if they could wouldn't make enough profit to cover the cost of the paperwork.
