I was at a gun show today and saw a Martini-Henry for $600. It was in decent shape, about what you'd expect for a rifle of its age (wood had dents & dings, blueing was mostly gone). Is that a good price? It seemed really cheap to me. I was really tempted. I would have jumped on it but I'm in the dog house for just buying a Sharps :) They're one of those rifles that are so ugly they're pretty.

Was it a Khyber Pass monkey-copy? Fakes are made of railroad ties and firewood, but can easily deceive an untaught collector.

If it's legitimate, and the proofs and markings are as detailed and formed as they should be, it's a good lowish-end-of-market price, depending on model.

It's probably one of the Nepalese imports - I've picked up a few at ~$400 in decent condition, of both 577-450 and 303 caliber, and three different barrel lengths.
