Massachusetts and New Glocks

A short month or so ago it became legal for Massachusetts residents to buy new Glocks after years of not being able to. During that time I would bet that the local gun shops where selling large amounts of new Glocks as soon as they came in.

Well, the Attorney General has put a screeching halt to that. The local guns stores received a call earlier this month to stop selling them as they are again removed from the legal selling list.

The reasons are as varied as the confusion over what is really legal in this state. Depending on who you talk to the story could be anything from Sigarms causing a fuss over the chamber indicator to the ease of adjusting the 10 lb trigger pull.

Whatever the reason, a friend of mine received a call from Four Seasons saying that they are offering full refunds to anyone who bought one of these Glocks. No matter how much they've been fired. This has got to hurt the local gun stores who are doing this. Selling new guns and getting back used ones.

Now here's the dilema. It's not mandatory that you turn in your new glock, but it's been stated that if you use these Glocks in a self defense situation, you could be held accountable for using a non-compliant weapon. This statement was given with the "Not a Lawyer" disclaimer, but it was still put out there.

So what would you do? Keep it or return it? You really gotta love this state.
 
KEEP IT.....

...it was legal when you bought it, so there is no justification for you to return it . It would only be illegal AFTER the stated date of the recall.

If you acquired and registered the firearm when it was legal, you are good to go. Also, who knows when you will be able to acquire a Glock in that state again?

Definitely Keep it!

Since Glocks are now rare, why would you want to return it if its not required to. Just use it as a target gun and a gun that others can drool over at the range.

Hang in there, we're also hanging in there on the other coast trying to battle BS gun control laws. :(

Use the refund to purchase a used, surplussed glock from CDNN.

Chances are anything being surplussed is pre '98.

What's the consolation in that? The surplus and reconditioned market was there all the time, but the decision to buy a brand new model was made.
 
Well, this is one way for the MA AG to put all the gun shops out of business. "Sure, it's legal, go ahead" 2 weeks later: "Sorry, not legal, you need to buy them all back". Every gun becomes "used", and the dealer makes so little money that they fold. :fire:

I feel so bad for the gun dealers in this state.

What a load of bull! I sympathize with you guys and gals who live in non-gun-friendly states. I just count my lucky stars that I have been able to live and work in states that weren't this hostile to gun owners.
 
How does illegal weaponry effect a self defense situation? Lets say you're involded in something and you kill an intruder. 100% and normally would be considered self defense. But instead of using a regular weapon you used a sawed off shotgun or something equally illegal. Does that automatically change the situation or are you only slapped with the weapons charge?

And what is the average charge for having something like a sawed off shotgun anway?
 
Not sure about any other state, but a sawed off shotgun in Mass is a big no no. To answer your other question, YES Massachusetts will actively pursue charges against you for using an illegal firearm.

Heck, Massachusetts would probably actively pursue charges against you for using a LEGAL weapon.

I have been following this story with my local dealer and there may be more to it than has been reported so far.

There are people who don't know about secondary markets.

There are people who think they just have to have a fresh gun.

Consolation? No legal baggage associated; you get a glock; it's probably cheaper.
 
What I've read states that these Glock refunds are being offered by Glock. You return it to the gunshop for a refund and Glock reimburses to gunshop owner. The gun also had several changes from the standard models just to get sold in MA. I would say Glock will be back, but how long before they're sold again and what changes will be made to the new offerings can't be said.
