i have a Mauser chambered in 3006 its a vz 24 action and i have a shilen match grade select 4 barrel in ss can the rifle be re chambered in 300 win mag and if so would it be expensive to do so thanks for any help

Can be done. Bolt face will need to be opened up to the mag round. Also, rail work will need to be done to insure feeding. Then, long and heavy bullets will need to be seated deeply to keep OAL short enough to feed.

Big job and expensive if you can't do it yourself. Worth it? Your call. I'd keep what I have, but that's me.

Good luck.

Is there a specific reason to change caliber, is barrel shot out, etc?
If you have to hire the job done, I'd say you're better off just buying or trading for the cal. you want.

After re-reading your post a little closer, you're not swapping barrels just re-chambering, I'd still say it's not worth it unless you do it yourself. IMO.

That would be a good project for you to undertake yourself. Was the magazine lengthened when the .30-06 barrel was installed?

Clemson

Remington info. Note the 1st three are 300 win mag (180, 190, 200),
last three are 06 (180, 180, 220)
To me the increase in ballistics doesn't equal the cost you'll likely face for the conversion. But what do I know?

Note: These ballistics reflected a test barrel length of 24"

The .30-06 is certainly not undergunned for elk. Take a look at your bullet construction, though. I would look at something a little tougher than the traditional cup and core 180 grain bullet. Look for the keywords "partition, bonded, or interlock" in your chosen load and test for accuracy to the distance you will likely be taking shots during the hunt.

Edited to add: If I'd never rechambered a barrel before, I'd be darned if I tried my first home rechambering job on a Shilen match grade barrel!

I have converted a VZ24 to 300WM and it works and shoots well.

It is not that easy to do.

There are some extra steps:
1) Lengthen the magazine box
2) Open the bolt face
3) Thin and cut down the extractor
4) Remove material from the feed lips of the receiver.
5) Practice with magazines full of pointed tip dummy ammo until it feeds upside down.
6) Mount a recoil pad, I did a Limbsaver

The 300 Win Mag bolt face and extractor is the one on your right.
.223 on the left.
8mm [stock] in the center.
