I have an AR15 that is 16" 1 in 9 twist. Your basic M4gery with a 5.56 chamber.

What do you gentlemen think would be a good bullet for 200yd target accuracy? I am fairly sure a 62 grain would not be a problem. I think a 69 grain should work. A 75 grain might be pushing it.

Any suggestions? I am also going to look at the Sierra site for weight/twist rate suggestions.

Thanks

Personally, I think you would be alright shooting the 75gr..... but I don't think you'll be able to achieve MOA accuracy consistently. YMMV, however, all it takes is to try it out and see.

A 1/9 will handle anything up to a 75 grain at least.

Just avoid any & all FMJ-BT military style bullets if accuracy is your goal.

Almost any bullet with the jacket opening in the nose will shoot way better then a FMJ with the opening in the base.

The plastic Tip bullets like the Hornady A-Max & V-Max, Nosler Ballistic Tips, etc, or any of the HP Match bullets is always a good place to start.

For 200 yards and less I'd try 55 or 60's.
It takes a ways for the really long bullets to settle down and fly right.

Remember that these heavier bullets have longer length from front to back. You'll want to make sure they seat deeply enough, and have proper OAL to fit the magazine of an AR and feed properly.

75 grains seems to be the dividing line.
Some 9 twist barrels will handle it, some won't.
There are differences in bullet length - which is what really governs stability - and actual barrel twist rate. Not much way to know except to shoot the gun.
