Md. Gun Show Sucked!

I dont really have a beef with high prices so much. What I have a problem with may not even be directly under the control of the vendors. Gun shows just dont have anything I am interested in. Im looking for cool old rifles in 7x57 or 6.5x55 and pre lock Smiths and Colt revolvers and those are really coming up short at gun shows. Im not too into buying guns online either and I think that is where these kinds of guns are ending up. The internet has really killed gunshows in my opinion.

I am pretty much done with gun shows, pay to get in, find every gun wildly overpriced, not many of the guns I want to check out, and way to much non-gun stuff. I am not there to buy Nazi memoribilia, not there to buy a knife, or any of the other junk. The most I tend to find is on rare occasion a decent buy on some mil-surp ammo. Not worth my time.

Gunbroker.com lets me find the guns I am interested in at a decent price, I can find ammo there too, and if I need gun cleaning stuff, Gander Mountain doesn't charge for parking or to get in the door.

The gun shows are soon becoming a thing of the past. The shows in this area, going back a year or so, had thousands of people in attendance each month, with long lines at the ticket booths. The West Palm Beach gun show last month and this month had attendance in the low hundreds each day and no lines at the ticket booths. IMO it is because of the outrageous pricing and dealer attitudes and because most shows are becoming just another flea market with guns. The October West Palm Beach gun show included booths of: Pots & Pans, toys, Avon, Perfume, photo booths, used clothing & uniforms, and foot massages. Hey, they even had a George W. Bush look a like you could have your picture taken with for a price.

Food for Thought: Why buy at a gun show when you can buy off the net and save 30 to 40% including the shipping and get your order within 5 to 7 days. I buy guns from Gun Broker or J&G and get them in 5 days. I buy ammo from ammoman.com on Sunday and get it on Thursday and don't pay any shipping charges and save at least 40% over the gun show prices. Case in point; 7.62 x 39 Russian Wolf FMJ 1,000 rounds, gun show price $345, same brand ammo from ammo man $239-1,000 rounds and no shipping charges.

Sometimes the larger vendors have fixed prices, but most of the smaller dealers will haggle and those high prices can turn into some real deals. Gunshow prices can appear outrageous, just never pay more than you are willing.

when I go to gun shows, I look for three things: beef jerky, the rare deal or reasonable price on the few tables I expect to see them at, and to see if the other patrons are selling anything good.

I will at least score some great beef jerky, which makes the trip worth it.

And I agree. The internet is killing the gun show, although I'd be more inclined to blame the gun show for killing itself thanks to vendors who can't take a hint and price at least somewhat competitively. Luckily, there are a few vendors in my area that took a hint and at least have their prices match what it would cost to order and ship off the internet.

gun shows

I went to the springfield Mass gun shows few yrs back 1500 tables.bought a S&W 32 I frame $20 and should have got the colt too same price. got 2 S&W
M&P 38s cylinders with cranes $10 each.
bought a win 73 in 1945 in burmingham al for $5.00and colt lightning 38 for $3.00.
now its all crap or browning shotguns.plus the jewlry and knifes.
wait till couple yrs and the prices will go into the celler.

I just got back from one in fort smith, a g & s production. They used to be something worth going to, now everything is so stinking overpriced it isn't funny. I did allow my brother to get the feel of several handguns so I know what to buy him for his 21st birthday this January. Turns out a 1911 fit his hand best, I guess I have a reason to buy 2 now, one for me and one for his birthday.

Been doing gun shows for 30yrs. They never change. HAHAHAHAHA

I truly love it when checking out a table of items, the blowhard behind the table is whining to the guy next to him how he hasn't sold anything.
I then make an offer. Its always the same thing,"I can't make any money at that price!" WAAAAAAAA.

LMAO

I went to a gun show in Denver yesterday. Bought some odds and ends. Then bought some walnut media from a guy and ask 'how was your sales today'? Boy was that a mistake! The sucker wanted to know why I was asking. I said i just wondered how sales were going and he accused me of wanting to rob him when he was leaving! So much for trying to be nice to someone.:banghead:

I alslo bought a few sticks of jerky ! LOL !!!

Just as an example of extremes in prices.....

I bought my Mauser ammo. strips for $.50 cents a piece.A few rows over the same item ,$2.00 a piece. Snap Caps at one table $2.50 a piece, the other stand,$1.00 a peice.

I noticed alot of used Remingtons and Winchester Hunting Rifels for sell.
Of course, prices were marked as if the rifles were new !!

I'm not going back next year ,at least until the dealers come-to-their-senses !! :uhoh:
