Hey guys - just looking for some advice. During this powder drought the only thing I've been able to get my hands on is Red Dot. Problem is - it is measuring absolutely TERRIBLY through my Hornady LNL's standard powder measure. I'm trying to work up a 9mm load (starting around 2.8gr) but about 15-20% of the time the measure throws a charge that's short about 1.0gr.

I would just try another powder but right now I can't really find anything else. Does anyone have an experience with Red Dot in a Lee Auto Disk Pro perhaps? For $40 or so seems like it might be worth just getting a second measure and metering this powder through that if it'll work.

Thanks!

I get squib loads with anything lighter than 5.2 grains of Green Dot. I would not trust my Lee Auto Disk throwing charges that light.

My experience with Red Dot is that it just does not measure well under about 4 grains. I have a couple of different measures I use. Both are horrible under 4 grains. Above that and they are golden.

My Hornady powder measure will throw 3.1gr of Red Dot on the money charge after charge. If you safely work up a load just a little higher than what you're at you should be able to get your measure to work consistently.

Make sure its's clean of any grease/oil and run about 1/4lb of Red Dot through it. Then fill the hopper about 1/6 full (just 1/2" or so above the metal), drop your baffle in, and fill the hopper up about 3/4 full. If you can't get it to drop 3.0gr consistently you need to make sure you don't have static build up. IMR-800X is the only powder that's ever given me that type of trouble in either of my Hornady measures, and its a much bigger flake than Red Dot. Long cut stick powders give me trouble sometimes with cutting grains, but they're never more than 0.2gr off.
