More details to come, but we will be holding this program in Lansing on Wednesday, January 20th. The program will take a good portion of the day and has to be done during a weekday due to legislative schedules.

Our goal is to introduce the average gun owner in ways to more effectively lobby for gun rights. We'll cover both visits to your legislator and testifying on proposed bills.

Program, roughly:

-Short legislative action introduction/seminar.
-Discussion of how a bill gets introduced, how it gets assigned to committee, who testifies, who decides which bills are taken up during session, how votes happen.
-Effective communication with legislators and staffers.

-Tour of State House and Senate office buildings, including security procedures and maps.

-Individual visits with legislators.

-Depending on legislative schedule, either committee hearing or legislative session..odds are that any bills being heard that day will not be firearms-related but the process is the same.

Due to this program requiring many people to take time off work, we want to give as much notice as possible, even though some details (such as conference room) aren't complete yet.

Let me assure everyone that this will be an enormous help in providing many more gun owners with the tools to more effectively influence the folks that make the laws affecting all of us. I can't think of a too much more valuable way to spend a day.

Think of it as a "how to" for how to maximize our RKBA impact.

Any of our members within reach of Lansing should make the effort to attend.

This program will start at 9:00 in the Library Room, across from the Capitol.

Guest speaker will be Joel Sheltrown, the Chair of the House Committe on Outdoor and Recreation (where most gun bills go.)

Tentative Schedule as follows:

9:00 - 10:00 - Introduction to Legislative Action.

10:0 - 11:00 - Legislator's discussion - Joel Sheltrown

11:00 - 12:00 - Tour of Senate and House Buildings.

12:00 - 1:00 - Lunch (Provide your own or we can order in.)

1:00 - 2:30 - Committee hearings or floor visits.

2:30 - 4:00 - Individual visits with legislators, with some of the more experienced folks being able to go with those who are unsure of themselves. Would ask people to call their own legislators or staffers to set up meetings prior to the date of the training.

4:00 - 4:30 Meet back at the conference room for end of day round up, questions, comments, feedback, etc.

Barb,

I will be available that day after all. Can you please reserve a spot for me?
