Michigan handgun carry question

A co-worker of mine was just issued a Michigan handgun carry permit. We are merchant seamen, if that matters.

He has a very big problem with rage and drinking. At least once per month he goes to a bar and tries to start fights. At work he seems intent on using his permit so he can "legally" shoot someone, like his ex-wife. Last night he was refused permission to come back aboard ship, and we left without him.

My problem with all this is, this is not the kind of person who represents those of us who carry and are quiet about it, and do not pose any problems. I'm from Tennessee, and I know that down there a person like this wouldn't be allowed to carry.

I have access to his social security number and address. Should I contact (who to contact in Michigan?) the authorities with his info and express my concerns?

I would like to just stay out of it, but I don't want some moron making all of us look bad.
 
This is a tough question because you will have to make the decision based on your own moral principles.

If you decide to contact someone, you should probably contact the gun board (Concealed Pistol Licensing Board) in the county that issued his CPL. I believe it consists of a prosecutor of that county as well as a member of law enforcement such as the sheriff.

You will have to very seriously weigh all the pros and cons of taking this action. For example, I don't know if the board would consider an anonymous letter. If the letter were not anonymous, there may be a chance he could find out who wrote it. I have no idea what their procedures are.
 
The gunboard meetings are subject to the freedom of information act.. but they are the ones who make at least the initial decision on issuing or not issuing CPLs.
 
I am not concerned with repercussions from the co-worker, I'm the boss. I am mainly concerned with the public opinion and safety.

I would never send an anonomous letter since I feel that is cowardly.
 
In Pennsylvania to get a LTCF(CCW) you can't be a drunkered or known drug addict. If you commit a felony of any kind you will be turned down. If this guy picks a fight every few weeks I find it odd that he was never convicted of assult. I guess the laws are not the same as here.
 
The best way for him to lose his permit is for a violation of the law that does not involve someone else.

The Michigan limit for legally carrying is a BAC less than 0.02. There are increasing penalties at 0.08 and 0.1. So if you know he is carrying and you see him drink, contact the authorities.

Once he starts drinking, the firearm must be unloaded and securely stored. The "legitimate purpose" rules may also apply, when it comes to transporting.
