Well, I had some nice answers prepared to your questions Brownie and Jeff, but they decided to close the topic. I may be able to IM or e-mail them later? Anyhow...

There was one thing which went unsaid in that thread which may or may not have some bearing. I doubt many of you are aware of the fact that last month serious considerations began on totally disbanding the MSP over budget concerns. They plan to cover the slack with sheriffs.

Hate to say it but wasn't congress holding hearings about putting the BATF on the chopping block when the WACO thing occurred?

Ryder,
I believe they were debating the BATF budget when the Waco debacle started. I don't think they had any intention of disbanding it.

Do you have any links to news stories on this? Once I read of all the assests they deployed, I thought that it seemed excessive for what they had. Could be that they knew more aout what was going on then we do though.

I'm surprised that it didn't make the national news. A state in such financial trouble that they are considering disbanding their State Police would be a big story.

Jeff

Ryder, regarding F Troop, the answer is no. However, F Troop especially under the past few directors is continually on the make for dough because of its chronic mismanagement (via misappropriation of government funds and its black bag stuff, e.g. the national registration center, the ill-fated air force, Forward Trace, etc.).

Waco was to be ZBO ("Zee Big One"). A big score to parade in front of Congressional committees and get back at the Fibbies.

I cannot believe that any state assembly would allow their state po-po to be dissolved. However, does not mean I can't be wrong.:uhoh:

I think it was Oregon recently that was considering it too. Don`t know if that`s resolved.

Ah, I believe you are correct Jeff. As you partially were in the other thread. You've got a good head, much better than mine when I am working midnights! But alas one of your previous comments about frosting me came far from it :)

Don't have a link. I read about in an online state news service. Quite correct that it was not widely advertised. I heard about from no other sources. Trying to search it is like pulling hen's teeth. I recall reading that they could practically get two county officers for the price of one state officer.

I will try a search on my link from work to the site I saw it on later tonight.

I'm sure they could. Especially since the people of that county would pay for it and not the state.

Everyone Master Sergeant and above (non union) in the Illinois State Police just took a big pay cut. Had a friend tell me she was going to lose 18K a year. They fired all the Captains in the Department of Corrections again the first big group that wasn't covered under a union contract.

Glad I didn't really frost you in the other thread ;) I should just quit responding to that stuff, but this us vs. them stuff really, truly bothers me.

Jeff - back on his atenolol for blood pressure

haha, I was wondering why you took such a hard line with me. Just keep saying to yourself "We're all in it together".

I give up on the search for a link. The original site I read that in has changed their format and no longer has a "state" function. I tried at least a half dozen other MI online papers and can't find mention of it. It does look to be no longer a serious consideration. From what I can gather they finally talked our fine Canadian liberal govenor into cutting the arts instead. Hard to imagine what it must have taken to get her to cave in to that.
