Mid-Range Scope Options for 6.8 AR?

I just picked up my Barrett REC7 in 6.8 yesterday and I'm itching to get some glass to put on top.

I live in Central TX, so this will be a fun target gun, hog hunter and possible deer rifle. General usage will be mid-range, I would say ~300 yds or closer.

Given that I'll use this with hogs and deer, the scope has to be illuminated.

I was considering Leupold Mark 4 MR/T, but I'd really like to stay in the $700 range as opposed to over a grand. I'd pay the extra if it was truly worth it, but I don't have a lot of experience with these scopes.

Any thoughts or tips and tricks from those who have been down this road would be appreciated.

Here are a couple reviews of the Leupold VX-R Patrols in 1.25-4 and 3-9 from a shooter known to handle a 6.8. I personally went in the middle with a 2-7 and really like the options. http://tacticalgunreview.com/category/optics/
