that seems really cheap for new brass. any reason not to use these for plinking? the description is

---- SMALL PRIMER POCKET ----

This is a specialized product for striker fired pistol like Glocks, Springfield Armory, etc. The smaller pistol primer allows hotter loading (but not + P) without the breech face and FP erosion encountered from large pistol primers in striker fired pistols.

Because they're a pain in the rear when they get mixed up with your LPP brass. But no other reason. They function just fine without any load adjustment. The old school guys might raise an eyebrow at you tho...

Some people prefer it. Some who think it is more accurate (I dunno), and some who like the fact they don't have to change over from small primers on their press.

Seems like a deal if you aren't sitting on enough LPP 45 acp brass for 3 lifetimes of shooting. Maybe for when you can't/won't pick up your empties?

I prefer spp in 45. Everything I load including rifle is small. Eventually I'll get around to testing my loads over a chrono just for my personal satisfaction.

I've sorted my spp out .45 for use when I go to an indoor range.

The best use I could see is if everything else you shoot is small pistol primer and you only want to stock one size.

They are good for annoying people at the range especially during a match. Use them and don't pick any up. The brass hounds will scoop them up and not notice.:evil::D

Excellent price - could not really go wrong with it. They seem to be sold out today - likely due to this "ad"...hehe

My 2 cents for the SPP - most of us keep track of # times shot, different head stamps etc. Primer pocket is one more thing to look at (sort), IMO, not a big deal.
Keep 'em separate if you need to, treat them as a different caliber through the priming step....

My understanding is that with SPP, you lose about 20 FPS with the same load used with LPP.
If you look inside the case, the flash hole for an SPP is obviously smaller than for LPP.

i have about a thousand- 500 are new and unfired RWS (gifted to me) and they'll remain that way. I like Starline LPP and that's what I use for anything I load with jacketed bullets and might be stored long term- for no other reason other than uniformity. For plinking, I like 230gr LRN and use scrounged LPP. It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is for those SPP cases to slip by the sorting process.
That being said, I'd rather have the SPP and never use them than need them and not have them. My thinking is, what if I can't get large pistol primers when I want during the next and inevitable shortage? Though that's unlikely given my current bank.

I was gifted a few thousand SPP .45 ACP cases once, and my plan is to build up a couple thousand more and then load them all in a batch. Seems like it should be easy that way.

I have gotten to where when I sort my brass, I just add a step where I seperate the SPP from the LPP that might get picked up at the range.
Doesn't really seem to add much more time to the sorting process.

If I were just starting out reloading, and if I didn't own anything else that took LPP (and therefore could eliminate LPP from my inventory), I'd view the SPP .45acp as a great idea.

However, those two "ifs" do not apply to my situation. Quite the contrary, as a matter of fact.

So I find that the occasional SPP .45acp case which finds its way into my press causes a stoppage in the reloading process, and as a result, I view them as a pain in the keister.

I try to cull them during the tumbling process, bag them up and give them away when I have enough to be worth someone's effort.

I like small primered 45acp brass.
Very little of what I reload uses lg primers.
So 45acp is easier for me to reload if I can do it with small primers.

No eyebrow raising here. :scrutiny:

I just looked too. Sold out dang it!

Interesting, that is the first time I have heard the striker fired pistol theory for small primer .45acp.
