I went through one of the last few boxes left to me by my uncle.

It is loaded with USA brand mags still in factory packaging.

Also mil issue large M2 mags not from USA and still in unopened wrappers covered in cosmoline.

I know the larger capacity loaded mags are not supported well by the the semi auto versions. Can I have work done on the rifles to hold the mags? I really HATE to deface the WWII issue carbines!

Should I just sell them all and use the money to get mil issue 14 rounders?

BTW I never had a USA mag that was worth even looking at. Are the MI USA functional or even worth the trouble?

I will keep the mil issue large M2 mags no matter what.

to get mil issue 14 rounders?
All U.S. GI M-1 Carbine mags were either 15-round, or 30-round.

The problem with the 30-round falling out was vibration and recoil of the full-auto M2 version.
And that is the problem the M-2 mag release was designed to address.

For normal shooting in semi-auto, your M1 mag catch will likely work just fine.
Try it.

No need to fix it if it isn't broke!

I would definantly get the M2 catch -- in point of fact I did years ago. The 30 rnd mags are heavier and that extra little finger will help holding the extra weight.
As pointed out it is an easy part to exchange and you certainly won't "deface" the weapon.

Question on 30 round Korean mags please...

Are there different Korean 30 round mags to choose from? Is there any one in particular that is preferred, or more reliable? Finally, where is the best source for these mags? I see the CDNN link above in this thread and wondered if those are the ones to purchase?

Thanks for your assistance!

The only ones I know of are stamped "UU" on the back of them, and are what I run. They're the tops; like 1kperday said, mine run better than my USGIs.

I have to open the large mags to see who makes them.

T still have a boatload of 15 rounders made by USA. Ar these USA mags as poor as the rest of the USA products or as the M1 carbine ones an exception??
Imean has anyone actually had luck with them in the 15 rnd Carbine version from USA.

My experience with USA mags is that some work, some don't. You really need to try each one out and see if it works. If it does, find out why and see if you can tweak the ones that don't. Bird in the hand, so to speak. You already have them, try and make them work.

On the other hand, sell the USA ones cheap and buy the Korean ones. I've had good luck with them, though I've only used the 15 rounders.

IMO...
USGI M-1 Carbine magazines are the best.
Korean (KCI) M-1 Carbine magazines are the second best.
The rest are garbage.

The Koreans have been making M-1 Carbine magazines since the 1970s for the ROK military. So, they've had a few decades to make it right.

I had 2 packs of the large mags. 10 mags per pack and each mag was wrapped in plastic also.

Were any milsurp mags issued with NO markings on them at all?
They are in great condition with a great bluing job.
I know, go out there and try them out. For me it is a long drive to a range that will let me shoot ball ammo.

No one has let me in on the locations of the secret/private ranges just east of the Dallas area. Guess I better get on the stick and get some proper intel/networking done.
