Have you actually managed to really clean a milsurp bore...

i.e. Let Shooter's choice/Hoopes #9/Robla soak in and not have the patch come out a deep blue? Even if you havent been to the range...

I have a Vz24 that I could swear hasnt been cleaned since stalingrad or something...

It used to shoot patterns... at 100 meters. But with much elbow grease and the patches still coming out indigo its now about minute of dinner plate. Wonder how much more copper is in there...

Also what is the best way to really clean the barrel up?

Sometimes chemicals aren't enough and you need to apply a little electricity:

Edit: I have a Yugo M48 that was so badly fouled that I plugged the barrel and filled it with a liquid brass polish polish (brasso or something similar to it)- I'd let it sit in the bore overnight, scrub it, then refill it. DId this for 3-4 days until most of the fouling was gone.

yeah that happened to me, with my mosin...the stuff I have had the best luck with is "Gunslicks Foaming Bore Cleaner" I fill up the barrel with the stuff and leave if for around an hour, then I come back with a patch until clean,

do this whole process as many times as it takes, (maybe 3 times) Good luck let us know how its goes!

I have a Garand from which I was trying to remove the copper fouling. I used Montana X-Treme and got plenty of blue patches (and a nasty headache from the ammonia fumes). I tried Break Free Copper Removing Bore Cleaning Foam. I used that twice and didn't get anymore blue. However, I tried again with the Montana X-Treme and started getting blue again, but not nearly as much as before.

So yes, I've tried and I pretty much failed. Oh well, it's still fun to shoot!! :)
