Ok, I'm tired of collecting brass scattered 30 feet away from my Mini-14 Ranch rifle. It's a series 188. Are there any suggestions?

Years ago I made a catcher out of 1/2 inch pvc pipe and burlap. Sort of a two sided deal with a top. Kept all the brass from flying away. Sold off all the rifles that I used it with and it was then donated to Waste Management. I now shoot M1 Garands and they tend to put all the empties in a small area and they are easy to see.

Shoot cheap, steel cased stuff and don't worry about it. That's what I do.

I used this gas bushing kit on my Mini 14, it works as advertised with a couple of caveats: I ended up using the next to largest aperture to get reliable functioning with handloads as well as milsurp ammo. Not as much of a problem if you only use one loading. Second, because of the recess for the bushing, the barrel is very thin at that point. Torque down the gas block too hard and you could get a bump in the bore at that point. Unless your torquing is totally consistent, be prepared for changes in point of impact when you change bushings.

I hadn't considered burlap.
We also made a sort of mesh fence that clamps to the shooting bench. It does a pretty fair job of keeping brass close by and out of other shooters way.

I have the one Brownells sells and it works well. I use it on a Ranch Rifle chambered in 6x45. To keep from denting case mouths and shoulders, I augment it with a rubber like adhesive sheet applied to the opposed inside surface. After going to the trouble to form case I don't like losing them (or having them dinged-up beyond the point they can be reloaded).

I use one of the collapsible clothes hampers I bought at Wal-Mart for less than $10.00 I set it up on end and it keeps cases from going all over the place. When I am finished it just folds up flat and is easy to keep with my gun range stuff.
